How Semi-Block Works?

  1. Initial Freezing: The shrimp are individually spread out and rapidly frozen to a certain degree, yet not completely solidified.

  2. Bulk Freezing: Subsequently, the partially frozen shrimp are collectively packed in bulk and thoroughly frozen.

Benefits:

  • Reduced Clumping: The shrimp may still clump together slightly, but they are more easily separated than when subjected to conventional bulk freezing

Improved Shape and Texture: Freezing shrimp individually at the outset helps preserve their shape and texture more effectively than if they were only bulk frozen

Cost Efficiency: This method is more cost-effective than complete Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) because the individual freezing stage is shorter and consumes less energy

Applications:

  • Semi-Block is useful for products where full individual freezing might not be necessary but maintaining some separation between pieces is desired
